Get Some: A Day with Cardiel

The all-terrain GOAT hits Boreal

We all know he's one of the most revered skateboarders of all time, but John Cardiel also holds legend status within the snowboarding world. Cards was an early '90s pioneer in the then-fledgling NorCal scene, and is particularly remembered for his backcountry antics in the 1992 film Riders on the Storm. Cardiel's snowboarding took a backseat once his skate career took off – propelled by his 1992 Thrasher SOTY award – and his accident in 2003 appeared to all but end his time on the mountain for good.

In 2013, Cardiel strapped in for the first time in a decade. Having been originally told he'd never walk again, the legendary figure has been spotted on the mountain a number of times over the last few years. This video documents one of those sessions at Boreal, where the Offshore Snow Shapes crew took John for a test ride on his own custom board this past spring. The crew also sits down for a chat, where Cardiel's trademark energy and positivity shines through, as always. He's truly one of the all-time greats.
