Drones and surfing have proved to be a match made in heaven over recent years, with drone cameras responsible for some of the most groundbreaking footage the sport has ever seen. But what if the drone was more than just a camera – what if it towed you along while you surf?
The crew over at Freefly Systems had that exact thought recently, and spent the Northern Hemisphere summer working on developing the new sport of 'Dronesurfing' – drones that guide you through the surf, like kitesurfing on high-tech steroids, or wakeboarding without a boat...or wake. Freefly's Alta 8 drone is the one seen in the video, and while it was originally designed to carry heavy-duty camera equipment, it's usage as a controllable towing mechanism will probably prove to be more popular.
See for yourself – the footage is incredible.
