I’ve been having a hard time trying to find out information on waxing. I just wanted to know how often i have to get a hot wax, and i am buying a rub on wax to take up on the mountain with me, but i need to know when and how often to use that too, thanks for your help

Rub on doesn’t last more than a day. It’s not absorbed into the base like the hot wax process.

Really, a hot wax lasts a couple to a few days, give or take depending on the snow conditions and the type of wax used.

You should be able to see and feel the difference. Keep an eye on your base, and when it looks like it’s drying out, it’s been stripped of the wax. This will be noticeable near the edges first. Also note how the board feels in regards to speed and ability to hold momentum (for example, on flat terrain).

It’s a good habit to try and wax every few days, but we’ve all been known to get lazy with it at times (I know I have). I always try to have it waxed fresh before an expected powder day. That’s when I REALLY like a freshly waxed base. wink

Any questions, let me know.

Okay awesome thanks for your help, and also, if I got a hot wax do you need to do it right before you go riding (meaning like the day before) or can you do it like a month before?

Doesn’t matter how long you get it done before!!!!!

Only timin that needs thought is that it can’t be done straight after gettin off the hill!!!!!

The base needs to warm up and dry out before heat gets applied!!!!!

And honestly, try hot waxin it yourself as its not only strangely rewardin, it’s dead easy and it’ll save you heaps of coin!!!!!

awesome thanks a lot for your help! Ill probably end up doing hot waxes on my own after a while, because i know it is pretty expensive after a while to get it down some where lol

If you know you’re not going to be riding for say a month or more, you should apply a storage wax — which is essentially the normal waxing process (you can use more wax than usual to apply a thicker coat and to cover the edges) but DO NOT scrape the wax off. Scrape all the wax off just before you go snowboarding. This will protect your base from drying out and your edges from rusting.
