Japan 2017

...Just booked our flights on the Jet* ‘return for free’ sale, so thought I might start a thread for the upcoming season!

The price was too good to refuse…2 of us with 20kgs luggage each way, in and out of Osaka for $1320….We paid around that per person last year (including an internal flight though)

Even with an internal flight to Hokkaido, we’re still looking at return for around $850pp which is cheap as chups.

Our dates are Jan 18 - Feb 7.

Since we’re landing in Osaka, we might check out Kyoto and Black Cat our gear to Hokkaido….or now I’m wondering about landing, hiring a car and then checking out some resorts in the Gifu region, Black Cat our gear when we’re done to Hokkaido and then spend a couple of days in Kyoto checking it out (also keen to check out Himeji Castle) while our gear makes its way north.

Then when we’re on Hokkaido we’re thinking of hiring a campervan, using onsens and going wherever the snow is good! We won’t be going back to Niseko but we’re keen to try Rusutsu this time.

So keen! Our maiden month in Japan in Jan/Feb this year was epic! Can’t wait to get back there and explore more!

Cords: A campervan in Hokkaido in mid winter is very very cold. Man, people have fallen to sleep in their cars to sleep off a big one. Then get caught in a blizzard unable to get out of their car and died because of the 2 to 3 meters of snow that hammered down over a 4 hour period. Don,t get a camper with a toilet. 1 you could have big problems with the anti freeze.2: It is very expensive to depose of the waste. And if you do hire a car in winter, get a 4 or all wheel drive with snow tyres and carry a couple bag of kitty litter to get you out of icy situations.
