help me for my japan trip please

hey im new here,
hope this is in the right section.
i am doing a trip to niseko early feb 2010 and have a few questions about gear.
i have a budget on board gear of about $700
i have outgrown my old board and boots and was wondering whether i should:
1. buy a new board and rent bindings, boots etc (i have heard you have to re hire every 6 days :( )
2. buy a new board and bindings and rent boots every six days
3. rent all my stuff

has anyone done this before?
its mainly due to the fact that i think the rental boards are usually shit quality and it might be cheaper to just buy.
cheers

For 700 bucks i’d definitely buy myself a new setup smile

yeah.
i did a little search on ebay and i could probbably get a burton custom wide 162 and cheap ass bindings for 700 bucks. im about 6’1” and under 80kg. do you think that would float well in powder?

I’d be careful with eBay making sure the board’s still in good condition. A quick search on the board says it’s great in powder in reviews.

well for 700 dollars i’d check out the deals at your board store cos i reckon you could just get a board, boots and bindings for under 700 and still it’d be better than rental gear imo.

check out ballistyx store if you’re in melb
if you’re in sydney im sure STM would be a good choice wink

actually i went to STM today and they put me on to this forum.
best deal i could get there was a 2008 burton deuce 158 wide and bindings for about $680
im considering that but i think i want a longer board

also i would only buy a new board and bindings from ebay. it might not be any cheaper after postage i guess. i dunno, maybe ill offer STM cash to try and squeeze out a further discount.

Well the thing is, the hire in japow wont be any better than a a new setup you can buy here from a store.
no matter how cheap, i think that it’ll still beat rental standards.
I would first invest in a good pair of boots though because they make the most difference wink

Honestly, if you are going to buy some of your gear and rent the rest, you are better off buying a good pair of boots that fit your feet correctly. Boots are the hardest to fit properly and rentals are usually junk, or close to it. Get fitted by an expert boot fitter at your local snowboard store. There are a lot of good sales this time of year for all snowboard hardware. Choose what you want and put it on layby. You get the sale price and a further 10% tax back. You will be able to get all your tax back at the airport. It’s very simple to do (read the 4th post in this thread: https://www.boardworld.com.au/forums/viewthread/256/ ). Also read the boot fitting guide here: https://www.boardworld.com.au/content/category/boot-fitting/ and the board selection guide here: https://www.boardworld.com.au/content/category/board-selection/

If you need any more info just let me know.

I’d say that boots are your most important piece of equipment, if your feet are unhappy, your day is going to be miserable. Now imagine spending all that $$$ for the air ticket and accommodation and feeling like crap when you’re riding ‘cause your feet hurt!

That said, given that it’s the end of the season in AUS, buy the full package. And make sure that your boots fit right!

Absolute agreed. Priority is always given to the boots dude. Then if you can fit a board and binding into that 700 dollar budget, then go for it. wink
