NEW, May 2011: The new Nikon D5100 exceeds the performance of this old D90 in almost every way, and costs less, too.

and

Forget the ancient D90, which is a leftover from the previous decade; the D90 trails these new cameras in every respect, but costs more!

but you’ll need new lenses. so get the kit lens 18-55 <- which is not a crap lens. it even has vr built in. sell your current lenses, and get a 70-300 later on

hmmmm interesting - I get the ISO

But the frames…. hmm i wonder what that means in real time.

Is it better than my current SLR? i am guessing so cause without Digital camera technology has improved!

Just to give a bit of background on me - i grew up with a full manual SLR camera… only ever owned SLR until my compact i bought 4 years ago? I also was handed a professional quality video camera (from a telelvision station) when i was a wee lass. I have high expectations but haven’t kept up with the technology because affording it has been out of my reach.

I love my current cameras - the only thing that frustrates me about my current SLR is that it is not digital. My compact is brilliant (small things like Carl Zeiss) that i am scared to change even though it is also dying.

thank you Gamblor…

I think the d5100 will be my next camera… it seems we both keep replying whilst the other is composing!

well fps would come into play if you are shooting a jump or say at a wedding when it’s time for the first kiss. 4fps is good enough I think since it’s better that you actually look through your lens and capture a moment, instead of machine gunning a scene and hoping one of the spray caught something. If you’re shooting skateboarding you’ll need 8fps in a pro body (for sequences)

Sorry yeah i get that… but was wondering if it is better than what i am used to…. LOL probably.

Like is it 10x fast or 15… cause if that was the case i prob wouldn’t notice the difference between the 10 and 15. Get me?

but yes thanks for the skate board example… but what about boarding?? what is the difference between boarding and skating??
