ski tools - are some over priced or am i just a stingy?

so built myself a proper shed and now have a proper space to be fixing up boards. the last time tuned my own kit i was working in a ski shop so never had to pay for any of the stuff i needed for tuning. while shopping around for brushes etc i was blown away by how much this stuff actually costs the average punter. i started to wonder “cant i get some of this stuff from bunnings for a fraction of the the price?”. specifically:

Structure/steel brush

Diamond stones
Swiqx/Toko sell diamond files at $50-60 a hit, where as

so, is there something i dont know about tuning kit,  is there a reason why you would get the Toko/swix stuff?

OR

am i being stingy and about to wreak my and the GF’s boards?

Yep - we get taken for a ride here - the prices are bullsh/t.

Brushes:
Brushing has two functions; brushing wax out of the base, and adding a ‘structure’ after waxing. Metal /nylon to remove, horse hair for structure. Bunnings will have you covered there.

Files:
All you are doing is sharpening a metal edge to a point. Depending on the state of the edge, you go from corse, medium to a fine file. The key thing with filing is that you need a good file guide tool to hold the file at 90deg, and one that will contour, and roll on the base. You also need a special guide for the base edge filing. Often you are force to buy the file that suits these.

I have a Holmenkol guide for the base edge which I use with Holmenkol files in corse, med and fine.  It was about $30, and $10 each for the files.

Iron:

There is a temp range that wax should be melted onto your board. If your wax doesn’t have this on the label it is junk. For this reason you should have a dedicated iron with an accurate thermo on it.

I would jump on ebay and get some deals from Europe - there’s not great rush right
