laptops recommendations

Avatar

Looking at buying a new laptop before end of mother month.
Main uses are editing go pro footage(hero3) of up coming trips, watching movies
Downloading stuff.
I’ve hit up jbhifi and they told me I needed a 800 dollar laptop with and i5 processer or something.

Does anyone know the “actual” minimal requirements and rough pricing or model etc rather than what the salesman reckons??

The problem with video editing is that you can do it on a POS computer but it will crash and run slow.

Get an i5, get at least 4gb ram (upgrade it to 8 if you can) and get a dedicated graphics card.

Or buy a PC. Save money and have a bigger screen. How often do you actually travel with your laptop anyway? Buy a tablet for travelling.

Learn Adobe Premiere (even if you dodgey copy it) It’s better than the alternatives.

(Or buy a mac like some people will post. At least their video editing program will actually work on their computers. Not like windows movie maker. But expect to pay $1200+ for the convenience)

Prefer people’s points from first hand experience than being sold the Ferrari of laptops when I only needed a corolla

This would probably work.

And at $800 you’re hardly buying the Ferrari of laptops raspberry

So minimum of i5 processor. I refuse to buy a mac. Apple is a disease sick
Lol

ultrabook is small form factor, low power, long battery life.

See if you can scam a deal on a laptop with the new Intel “Haswell” CPUs, which are the 4th generation Core i5/i7.  They have significantly better battery life and much improved on-chip graphics, and of course they are faster than the previous generation.

Cheers for the help. I’ll have a hunt smile

it seems there aren’t too many laptops with Haswell available yet.  If you could wait a month or two there should be some.  You can already buy desktops with that chip.
