SO that thing is worth more than the drift cam itself?  Wow what a waste of time and money.

Pretty sure Spaz’s quoted price from deano’s post, is in regards to the price of the Camera!!!!!

I thought the same thing, until I realized it was from a previous post that was made in this thread!!!!!  LOL

Drift Launch Waterproof Case for the Drift HD Ghost

Product page: http://driftinnovation.com/accessory/drift-hd-ghost-waterproof-case-2/

Drift Innovation, the award-winning action sports technology company specialising in the capture and sharing of digital imagery, are pleased to announce the release of the all new waterproof case, designed specifically for the Drift HD Ghost.

Drift founder, Robin Parker said. “The Drift HD Ghost is waterproof to a depth of 3m straight out of the box. The waterproof case, however, allows our customers to use the camera for scuba-diving down to depths of 60m and in high pressure environments such as big wave surfing. The case also offers incredible protection for action sports where the camera risks being scraped or dropped on the ground eg. motorsports against flying pebbles/debris, paintball etc. The large replaceable flat lens also permits you to easily see the coloured LED on the front of the camera, so you always know exactly what function mode you are on, irrespective of how far below the water surface you may be (green = video, yellow = photo, pink = time lapse, blue = photoburst).”

The Drift HD Ghost waterproof case allows you to get the most out of your camera without compromising the sleek design.

Features include:
- waterproof to a depth of 60m
- dual locking system to ensure the Drift HD Ghost is always securely sealed and kept dry
- durable and functional button design for easy use
- front loading design
- compact and streamlined
- replaceable lens cover
- anti fog inserts

The case itself measures 113mm in length, 81mm in height and 63mm in width. The standard Drift universal clip screws neatly into the bottom of the case enabling it to be used with any of the Drift mounts including surfboard / fcs / suction cup / monopod etc.

The Drift HD Ghost waterproof case is perfectly suited for all aquatic activities including diving, snorkeling, surfing, stand up paddling, wind surfing, kite surfing, wake boarding etc. Don’t take our word for it, Get Out There and try it yourself!

Nice! Do you use the GoPro in your car for the same reasons?
The GoPro ones are on the high end, and are a bit too much for what I need. There are some really no-name cheap ones from China, however you get what you pay for.
I browsed this website a bit: http://www.szswill.com/
Any reviews or recommendations?

Need to do a little more research but I think I’ll buy one. Suits my needs and features and price are right.Plus the mic works on snow. I found this video interesting.

Just remember the GoPro isn’t the only other camera to compare it to, there is a huge variety of action cameras now and a lot of them are really good, and have different advantages, also there are new better versions fairly often.

That said there aren’t many great Action cams on the market all I can really think of is:(the top 3 are the main 3, others are still good though)
GoPro (3+ black)
Drift (Ghost)
Sony (HDR-AS100V)
Contour (+2/roam) [discontinued I think.. but can still buy new]
Ion (air pro)
and then it becomes more and more generic/ random brands making cameras because they can, still some good ones by Garmin, Toshiba…

Researching these things is a bit of a pain, but I’m sure you’ll find a camera you like at the right price.
Good luck finding the best one for your needs.

No GoPro is not the only other cam on the market but it is the “gold standard” by which all others will be judged.

I’m not looking to make professional looking edits, just some respectable short vids, bits for memories and, primarily, critiquing. The remote is a huge tick, the no case on the snow so you’re not making silent movies is another. I have done some research prior to running into this thread today but wasn’t able to form any solid opinions due to conflicting information/opinions from those in the know. But we’ll see, the GoPro I borrowed in March is still on my desk cheese

fair enough. research away and you should eventually find what you want, I did loads of random research had an idea of what was good at the time and then just bought one on a trip to Japan because it was cheaper than at home, and pretty much the same price as online. I was sick of comparing and waiting for new models…

If you’re lucky you might just be able to keep the GoPro raspberry

By no means would i call GoPro “the gold standard”. They are the most hyped and the most publicised and the most sold and the most overpriced but not the best in the market. Because of their place in the market they are what everything else is compared to.

I do more than research ActionCams, i use them.

My current recommendation is ReplayXD1080
