Shooting a skate contest without flash?

I am new to skate photography, and understand the basics of capturing and freezing action with flash and or hss, though i am going to be shooting a skate contest next month where setting up of flash isn’t an option. I would love any tips on what i could do to capture/freeze action apart from a higher shutter speed 1/1000 +.
Does anyone here shoot skate contests without flash, or do you use on camera still?

Thanks

Hey @dylane!

Yeah man, you should be able to shoot a contest without a flash. What’s the lighting like? Indoors, outdoors?

Let us know and @walker will have a better answer for you.

Pretty sure walker wasn’t using a flash at BOWL-A-RAMA when he was getting bangers like this…
