RULES & GUIDELINES:

For 2016, we are mixing up the format a bit, to closer reflect the workings and processes of photographers within the snowboarding industry.

All photos must be shot during the 2016 Australian snow season. We will require the original digital images from the winners to prove this, so please keep the original files.

This is a SNOWBOARDING photography contest, so all images submitted should be centred around snowboarding. Scenery is great but try and think of ways to incorporate something snowboard-related into the shot if possible. No skiing photos, please.

You aren’t judged on the ability of the snowboarders you are shooting, so don’t be discouraged if you don’t know any good snowboarders. This is a photography contest, so subject, composition, lighting and quality take precedence over any trick featured. Imagine your shot without any snowboarding in it; is it still impressive?

We are allowing 10 images maximum per photographer. So if you submit more towards the end of the contest, you must remove previous shots to make room. Somewhere between 5 and 10 shots is the magic number. You will be judged on all your photos and your worst shots will also count against you. So if in doubt, leave it out. Imagine this contest as your portfolio.

Constructive criticism is encouraged. For example, if you see a shot that could perhaps be cropped better (or something like that), let the photographer know. This is how we all improve, so don’t take it personally.

You are allowed to edit your photos based on feedback and remove photos from the contest as you please. You are allowed to do this right up until the end of the contest, and we will announce the closing date ahead of time. Use this opportunity to build the best portfolio possible so only your best shots are being judged.

We are looking for photographers who demonstrate a high level of skill, consistency, variation in shots, and an eye for lighting and composition. This contest is all about quality over quantity, and variety over repetition. If you usually only shoot park photos, challenge yourself to step outside of your comfort zone. This will go a long way in impressing the judges!

Hey Mas.Taylor - nice timing on the photo. Try to shoot it a bit looser so the rider isn’t so close to the edge. Also, boosting the aperture up to F22 ish will turn that sun into a nice star….but you’ll need to bump the iso up too. Easiest is to try and hide that sun behind a tree, the rider or the spray.

Just another image because why not.
