Just throwing this out there to see what protective gear everyone is wearing.
I usually don't wear any, but this season in whistler i really wanna go big and push myself out of my comfort zone to nail some gnarly tricks.
I'm probs going to get myself a helmet, but besides that what does everyone else wear / recommend?
Cheers

I wear a helmet in Whistler. I should probably start wearing one in Australia too but I haven't so far.
A helmet is essential in Whistler, so make sure you get one. Big lines with lots of exposure and dangers (some you can't even see).
I wear a mouth guard when dropping cliffs. My girlfriend's brother had a gnarly mouth injury from dropping a cliff. He now wears a mouth guard all the time. Also look what happened to Scotty Lago in The Art of Flight.
I know a few guys who wear back protection when freeriding and dropping cliffs.
Other options are wrist guards, shin guards (if you ride a lot of rails), butt pads etc., but they are more common for beginners (except for the shin guards).
The most important is a helmet for sure.

Just like a standard mouth guard from the chemist yeah?
i have a custom made one from when i used to play footy, but that thing is so huge i cant even close my mouth, plus i think my teeth have shifted since then.
also im thinking maybe getting the but pad just because attempting heaps of new tricks is going to end in a lot of landing on my arse. But if they're expensive i might just man up haha :D
thanks rider! you the man

I wear a helmet full-time, and bumpads for park riding. For jibbing/crashing, jumping/crashing and buttering/crashing I rate the bumpads.

I got this mouth guard custom made by my dentist. They took a mould of my top and bottom teeth. I've got the same one they make for boxers. It's fits on the top teeth only but has the imprint of your bottom teeth on the opposite side, so it locks your jaw in place if you take a big hit.
I was told by the dentist that the cheap, DIY type mouth guards are fairly useless. Don't know how true that is though. I'd choose to have something rather than nothing.

i wear helmet most of the time
its warmer than most of my beanies and has better ventilation
ive got an azzpad (which is mostly a tailbone protector) for park riding but my girl wears them full time as she just started
fine line between manning up and breaking/bruising/twisting something and sitting on the side line for the whole season...or worse

Get the crash pants, my coccyx has been giving me grief for a while now, I wear crashpants everytime I ride now. Haven';t looked into helmets yet but i might. Honestly maybe I'm just getting old but sometimes i feel like wearing pads everywhere, I have seen the compression tights for upper and lower body with built in pads and they look attractive to me.

helmet full time plus wrist guards. Probably don't need the wrist guards but I still wear em just in case. I don't do any park riding.

Had a pair of sixsixone bomber shorts when I rode my traily!!!!!
Pretty comfy and sleek, padded on the tail bone and thighs!!!!!
I always wear a helmet now!!!!!
Played field hockey for quite a few years and the off the shelf (Self Moldable) mouth guards are pretty damn good these days!!!!!!
I wish that they made somethin that can stop ya shoulder from poppin out though!!!!!!

I've worn a helmet pretty much since day 1. When I started boarding I was catching edges all the time. Mostly when trying to straight-line with some speed. I rode a day or two without one in the beginning, and copped a few big knocks from catching my heel edge, resulting in one pretty good concussion. I've worn mine since then.
To be honest though, I'm thinking of ditching it for next season though. I'm at a point now where I'm no longer catching edges, so I think I can do away with it. I'd take it to the park though.

I'm a big believer of 'if I'm broken, I can't snowboard' SO DON'T GET BROKEN!!!
Here is what I wear:
Helmet
Impact shorts
Knee Pads
Wrists Guards
I have broken or seriously injured everything in these areas. So why wouldn't I wear them??
Remember, it's not like skating. The only visible thing is the helmet. No one even knows that you're wearing the other stuff.
So armor up peeps
