I don't mind the hijacking - I think it is great!

Interesting discussion with some valid points.

Deano - That is a very good point and will try and arrange the inspection. But I don't want to fork out the money if the finance falls through (which is touch and go as I am 14 days off completing my probation at work)

are you getting it through a dealership?

if so ask them if you can get it checked out by their mechanics?* i have never had to get a mechanic to inspect the cars i bought as i had mates/gf's dad to do it, but im sure it wont cost much/anythign at all for a mechanic to have a quick look over it?

maybe wear a push up bra or something haha

*although id be inclined to think they will say its good no matter what just to get a sale

Apparently NRMA don't do inspections any more but there are a few people who do similar. Pretty through check overs including checkign for rust and old panel damage etc. It is $260.

Yeah not sure I would trust the dealers mechanic.

But I did ring the regular servicing mechanic to check they had done the timing belt at 100k and he said it was a good little car. So there is that.

There is an NRMA service centre in Canberra that does checks. Otherwise there are NRMA certified Mechanics who are authorised to do 'rego checks'.
