Invest in a good iron. It'll pay off in the long run.

If you can iron a shirt you can wax a board. Definitely not rocket science. The drip method is popular in the west but I prefer the cleaner 'Jap' method of chaulking the wax onto the board. Leaves less excessive wax and more even coat then dripping. Youtube has a few videos on both methods to follow.

after you scrape the wax off, is the wax reusable?
i notced that firstly, wax isnt cheap and some people use a crapload of wax and i see them scrape like half a block off their board and i think that if it is reusable, it is definitely a big waste...

Shouldn't be much waste at all for a basic wax. Only time i have real large amounts of excessive wax is when I do a summer coat.

I don't think anyone recycles wax.

Technically it would work, but I don't see the point. With good technique there shouldn't be too much wastage. Read the alternate technique on the waxing guide page.

its just when i see others wax their boards they use half a block of wax and often cover the lodge's workshop floor or balcony in wax.

Just comes down to poor technique. That said I have waxed a lot of boards, so I definately went through the whole trial and error thing. Thanks, there will be a lot more info on a lot more topics coming in the future. I'm trying to pass on as much knowledge and good information to people who use this site. This is just the start, in my opinion there isn't nearly enough info on the site yet, but it will come.

If you're buying items tomorrow, dont buy an iron from a snowboard store, go to an op shop and buy a normal secondhand one for $10.

Hey, i too havent waxed my snowboard yet...

You say buy an old iron, do u mean a normal old clothes iron?? because wouldnt the steam it produces and spits out all over it mess it up and bead and not let the wax set properly ???

Or do you do it without any water? (but i thought it simply mightn't run at all without water, or over heat?? or blow up (haha) )
Again, or do u mean one of those proper little snowboard waxing ones?

If you use a normal clothes iron, make sure there is no water in it. Also once you use it for waxing you won't be able to use it on clothes again.

It is better to use a snowboard waxing iron (although a normal iron will work) - you can buy a waxing iron for about $90
