Might have picked a “wrong” board..

Hello all,

I am a snowboard enthusiast with around 10-12 visits to the mountains. Recently I decided to get my own equipment and I might have not chosen wisely. I got the APO BC 11-12 board http://www.apo-snow.com/snowboards/bc.html and tried it twice on snow. Its a really cool board, with an allround orientation. Up till now, based on what I've tried, I enjoy riding groomed snow, love riding on powder and why not try some jumps in the park. The board I got is a stiff board (8/10). I know soft boards are better for beginners but I always thought the rentals were quite soft. I like powder so I decided to go for a harder board. But, I think that I maybe overdone it.

All my snowboard buddies have much flexier boards and ask me why I 'd pick a stiff board. Apart from making it more difficult for me (I think I can overcome this problem) will a board that hard limit any other aspect (fun, tricks, ollies, etc) of my snowboarding experience? Based on your input and my next visit, I 'll consider selling it now that it's new and getting something different. :/

FINALLY, JF Pelchat has revealed his flagship product from his new company 'NOW Snowboarding' - a unique and innovative binding which could revolutionise the entire industry!

Some of you may recall my mentioning these bindings about a month ago. I hadn't actually (fully) seen them at that stage, because (just like they do with prototype car testing) the unique/distinctive parts of the bindings were covered up with tape etc. to disguise them. Now I've seen them, and it all makes so much sense! Testers were raving about the incredible edge hold, without the need for cranking your bindings or boots tight - or even highbacks! This is due to the binding being more attached to your feet than it is to the board. This video's just been released, so I can just let it do the explaining:

No more sore feet from cranking down your bindings or doing your boots up too tight! I can't wait to test these out for myself!

I thought it was about time to start the official Whistler 2011 / 2012 thread.

The peaks are already covered in snow and the forecasters have called for another epic La Nina winter. Last season was the second best on record, with more than 15 metres of snow falling during the season. There have already been claims of even a better winter during 2011 / 2012.

Who is going to be in Whistler this season? Are you coming for the season or for a holiday? Where are you working? Have you been to Whistler before? What are your plans? What are you looking forward to?

There's another binding company about to hit the market. I don't know too much about them other than they're built by the guys at Bataleon and they're putting together a really solid team, including the Helgason brothers. I know Finney has seen Kevin Sansalone rocking them around Whistler.
