Turn Phases
Author: Paul Morgan - Snowboard Instructor (CASI 3)
In the preparation phase, the rider gets ready to change edges and start the next turn and is in a balanced, aligned stance.
In the initiation phase, the board begins to point down the fall line in the direction of the turn, and the rider rolls from the uphill to the downhill edge.
The execution of the turn begins when the rider applies the new edge. This is the arcing part of the turn where the board must enter into, run parallel to, and turn out of the fall line.
In the completion phase, the rider finishes the turn to control speed and pressure and returns to a balanced, neutral stance.
